Wednesday This evening I was sitting on the deck, looking up at the willow tree that shades the house and found my Song of the Day. Here is the Willow Song from The Ballad of Baby Doe, an opera by American composer Douglas Moore. Sung here by Beverly Sills (4:12) This was one of Sills’ greatest musical moments, she is the singing actress every soprano who takes the role is measured against. This recording features an explanation of the circumstances by the composer, before Sills sings the aria.
Here’s another aria from the Ballad of Baby Doe, the Letter Aria, sung by Beverly Sills. This is early in the opera.
